Curious

It was exciting she supposed, though she’d never admit it. An average castle offered possibilities of a sort unavailable even in the outdoors. A castle such as this surely had no equal. She knew every passage, every secret nook, and still there were surprises daily.

She crept through the dark, ears twitching, her nose catching the faintest whiff of Troublesome Child, the kind He so laboriously despised. She darted ahead with silent feet, heart racing wildly, eyes wide and unblinking. An invisible step echoed from the crack of light at the end of the hall and the chase was on.

“See you at dinner, then?”

“Sure,” he answered, breath quickening.

The door finally closed with a muted whoosh, the ancient wood humming with possibility. Dean picked up pad and pencil and crawled into the window seat, letting colors wash around him, settling on his shoulders and in between his toes. He closed his eyes, waiting for the picture to form. It hovered, teasing, as his hand moved slowly over the paper in his lap, leaving only wisps of gray. He whispered softly and grays turned brilliant, wind and hair all orange and gold, pink mouth smiling upward.

He smiled back.
